Description
Name ÔAnanthapadmanabhaÕ is of Sanskrit origin, Anantha signifies infinity padmaÐ lotus and nabhaÐ meaning one who is having a navel. In totality, Vishnu is the one who is infinite and one who has a lotus stemming from his navel. Brahma the creator is born from the navel of Vishnu is symbolically depicted. Vishnu is reclining on the Adishesha a seven headed (sometimes even more) giant snake symbolising eternal time. Vishnu with a flower in his right hand approaches Shivalinga as a gesture of reverence. This shows the harmony between Shaivaite and Vaishnavaite sects. Although, the iconography is borrowed from Kerala mural tradition (Anantapadmanabhaswamy temple) it became one among the listed topics in Mysore traditional painting.Product Code-ART_1489_48582
