Name ÔAnanthapadmanabhaÕ is of Sanskrit origin, Anantha signifies infinity padmaÐ lotus and nabhaÐ meaning one who is having a navel. In totality, Vishnu is the one who is infinite and one who has a lotus stemming from his navel. Brahma the creator is born from the navel of Vishnu is symbolically depicted. Vishnu is reclining on the Adishesha a seven headed (sometimes even more) giant snake symbolising eternal time. Vishnu with a flower in his right hand approaches Shivalinga as a gesture of reverence. This shows the harmony between Shaivaite and Vaishnavaite sects.
