This painting is one of my series on Floral Alphabet.
D is for Daffodil.
One of the first arrivals in spring, the Daffodil represents new birth and new beginnings. It symbolises creativity, renewal, inspiration, memory and forgiveness.
Daffodils belong to the genus Narcissus and derive their name from the Greek God Narcissus. Narcissus was obsessed with his own beauty. In an attempt to capture his reflection in water, he drowned. Legend says that is why daffodils and other members of the genus grow along stream banks. This may also be a reason why daffodils represent inner reflection too.
Yellow, purple, orange and white are common colors.
It is the birth flower of March and represents 10th wedding anniversary.
