Laxmi pith Aipan Kala means to smear or to make shape with fingers. Aipan is a type of Alpana or drawing or Rangoli, which is depicted by the residents of Uttarakhand region in their auspicious works. In the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, on the occasion of any festival or auspicious work, on the ground and on the wall, a figure made of rice (powdered rice), geru (natural red soil or red chalk), turmeric, barley, pithya (roli), which can be seen There is communication of positive energy in the mind and brain, and there is a feeling of invocation of positive powers, it is the traditional and mythological folk art of Uttarakhand. The history of Aipan art is eternal. It is believed that Aipan, the famous folk art form of Uttarakhand, has been going on since time immemorial. This art has a connection with tantra, mantra and spirituality. In the region of Uttarakhand, the tradition of decorating the main door of our homes, and the temple and post altar on auspicious occasions and on festivals and rituals has been mythological. Grinded soaked rice, called Viswar, and ocher, red clay, have been used to decorate these places. At present, red and white oil paints have replaced ocher and visvar, but the art of aipan is the same, and its importance has never diminished. Aipan, the priceless folk art of Uttarakhand, is used to decorate the main door, threshold, wall and temple of the house, apart from this, according to the method of worship, the seats, backs etc. of the deities are marked.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
Please do not use soap water, detergent, disinfectants or any chemicals over the painting as it might dissolve the colors. Paper and cloth paintings are usually framed with a glass on top, hence the artwork will remain intact. You would just need to clean the glass. Always keep artworks away from direct sunlight and also from walls having water leakage problem, - as both can damage it.
