There is a moment just before a baby sea turtle meets the open water, when it rests in a stranger's hands and the whole ocean is still ahead of it. That is the moment I wanted to paint. She stands waist-deep in the shallows, holding the little green turtle carefully in her cupped palms, smiling at something we cannot see. The shoreline and its palms are caught in the mirrors of her sunglasses, a pink hibiscus sits behind her ear, and the water around her is every shade of turquoise a warm morning can produce.
I painted the turtle in the brightest greens and blues on the canvas so that it stays the beating heart of the picture, while the figure is worked in softer, sun-warmed tones. To me the painting is about the tenderness of holding something small and wild, and about the choice that always follows it — to open your hands and let it go. It is a quiet celebration of the sea, of the creatures that belong to it, and of the joy of being, briefly, part of their story.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
Please do not use soap water, detergent, disinfectants or any chemicals over the painting as it might dissolve the colors. Paper and cloth paintings are usually framed with a glass on top, hence the artwork will remain intact. You would just need to clean the glass. Always keep artworks away from direct sunlight and also from walls having water leakage problem, - as both can damage it.
