A textured view of Mumbai traffic, where a red double-decker bus and CSMT glow through rain-washed city streets.
The painting celebrates Mumbai’s energetic daily commute, viewed intimately from inside a driver’s car. The iconic BEST double-decker, clustered traffic, dashboard idol, and monumental CSMT architecture turn an ordinary rain-soaked journey into a tribute to the city’s heritage and resilient urban rhythm.
Rendered in a strongly expressive impasto manner, the work uses thick, tactile paint layers and broken, animated marks. Buildings, vehicles, reflections, and rain appear through energetic abstraction while remaining recognizable, creating a vibrant balance between urban realism and painterly emotional interpretation.
This painting would suit a living room, study, office reception, restaurant, travel-themed space, or contemporary hallway. Its energetic Mumbai subject and bold red focal point make it especially effective where a vibrant urban conversation piece is desired, ideally against neutral walls and warm lighting. This artwork will complement any room or space beyond those mentioned, depending on individual preference.
The mood is bustling, rain-fresh, and warmly nostalgic. Despite congestion and dense traffic, the luminous colour, reflective pavement, and recognizable Mumbai landmarks create a feeling of affection rather than frustration. It evokes the sensory excitement of monsoon travel and the city’s enduring everyday vitality.
A driver’s-eye viewpoint anchors the composition, with the steering wheel and dashboard forming a dark foreground frame. Cars lead inward along the rain-slick road, while the large bus dominates the right side. CSMT rises centrally in the distance, giving the busy scene architectural grandeur.
Crimson red dominates the double-decker bus, forming a powerful focal point against cool blue skies, slate-grey roads, and dark vehicle bodies. Warm ochres and golds illuminate CSMT’s facade, while white highlights and reflected reds enliven the wet street surface with sparkling contrast.

In Double Decker, artist Vandana Krishna captures the lively pulse of a Mumbai traffic scene from the intimate perspective of a driver's dashboard, complete with a tiny idol resting near the windshield. Set against the majestic backdrop of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the composition features an iconic red BEST double-decker bus alongside bustling cars navigating the rain-slicked streets. Using a rich, heavily textured impasto technique, Krishna weaves vibrant splashes of crimson, gold, and cool blue to transform a mundane commute into a luminous celebration of Mumbai's heritage and everyday spirit.
