In 'Hunger,' I wanted to explore a primal, relentless need that goes beyond mere physical consumption. This grotesque, swan-like creature is the embodiment of an insatiable appetite. Its jaw is wide open, revealing jagged teeth and the bare skeleton of its last meal—a stylized fishbone. The title refers not just to the act of eating, but to a deeper, more existential void that can never be filled.
The creature's body is oversized and strangely soft-looking, a form of unsettling vulnerability that contrasts with its menacing, predatory features. Its eye is large and vacant, staring out with a sense of emptiness. The surrounding colors, a deep, turbulent red and brown, create a powerful atmosphere of urgency and decay.
I used a dense, crosshatched texture on the creature, giving it an ancient, almost hardened skin that speaks to a long history of seeking. The contrast between this detailed texture and the simple, almost childlike skeleton of the fish emphasizes the tragic absurdity of its endless pursuit. Ultimately, 'Hunger' is a meditation on the human condition—the things we consume, whether food, power, or validation, and the emptiness that can remain even after we've had our fill.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
Please do not use soap water, detergent, disinfectants or any chemicals over the painting as it might dissolve the colors. Paper and cloth paintings are usually framed with a glass on top, hence the artwork will remain intact. You would just need to clean the glass. Always keep artworks away from direct sunlight and also from walls having water leakage problem, - as both can damage it.
