Vivid folk-inspired painting of two Kathputli puppets, celebrating Rajasthan's theatrical colour, costume and craft.
Inspired by the artist’s Kathputli series, the painting celebrates traditional Indian string puppets and their theatrical identity. Two elaborately dressed figures evoke Rajasthan’s living folk-performance heritage, highlighting handcrafted costume, storytelling, ritualised gesture and the charming visual language of puppetry.
The work uses a bold, expressive folk-art approach with simplified faces, emphatic black outlines and decorative patterning. Flat yet energetic passages of paint, visible brush texture and stylised costume details create a handmade character, recalling regional Indian craft traditions rather than naturalistic portraiture.
This painting would suit a lively living room, entryway, cultural studio, café, creative office or children’s activity space. Its bright palette and folk narrative work especially well against neutral walls, where it can act as a cheerful focal point and conversation piece. This artwork will complement any room or space beyond those mentioned, depending on individual preference.
The mood is playful, festive and theatrical, while the fixed puppet expressions introduce a gentle sense of mystery. Bright colours and animated costume patterns suggest celebration, music and performance, whereas the hanging strings subtly remind viewers of the delicate, crafted nature of the characters.
Two puppets occupy the central vertical field, with the taller figure leaning protectively behind the smaller seated one. Their overlapping forms create depth and narrative connection. A spacious yellow backdrop frames the vivid costumes, while strings and diagonal drapery guide the eye downward.
Saturated crimson, magenta, emerald green and deep teal dominate the costumes, producing a festive, jewel-like impact. Warm yellow washes in the background create luminous contrast, while white facial areas, black outlines and small blue accents sharpen the figures and preserve visual clarity.
Kathputli Series is a original handmade painting made by Soyli saha. This painting is made with watercolor colors on paper. This artwork is signed by artist, and accompanied with the Certificate of Authenticity. The width of the painting is 8 inches, and its height is 11 inches.
