Key Monastery has stood on its hilltop for centuries, watching over the vast landscapes of Spiti Valley. When I arrived here, the first thing that caught my attention was not the monastery itself, but the dramatic sky above it. Massive clouds drifted across the mountains, casting moving shadows over the whitewashed buildings and creating a scene that felt almost unreal. From a distance, the monastery looked like a living part of the mountain, rising naturally from the rugged terrain beneath it.
As I sat quietly observing the changing light, I was drawn to the contrast between the stillness of the ancient monastery and the constantly shifting sky. Birds circled above the rooftops while the cold mountain wind carried a sense of calm through the valley. In that moment, it felt as if time had slowed down. The centuries-old walls, the silence of the mountains, and the endless blue sky created an atmosphere that was both powerful and peaceful. This painting is my attempt to capture that feeling—a place where nature, history, and spirituality come together in perfect harmony, making Key Monastery one of the most unforgettable sights in the Himalayas.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
