Lamayuru Monastery, Ladakh — Watercolour Painting by Artist Rohit Chauhan
Nestled amid the rugged mountains of Ladakh, Lamayuru Monastery** is one of the oldest and most enchanting monasteries in the Himalayas. Often called the *“Moonland of Ladakh”* because of its surreal, moon-like landscape, Lamayuru is a place where time seems to pause. The ancient gompa, with its whitewashed walls and golden spires, stands gracefully against the backdrop of dramatic cliffs and ever-changing light.
In this original watercolor painting,Artist Rohit Chauhan beautifully captures the spiritual calm and raw beauty of Lamayuru. Each brushstroke reflects the silence of the mountains, the whispering winds, and the deep cultural soul of Ladakh. The delicate washes of color evoke the texture of stone, the glow of the monastery at sunrise, and the mystical aura that surrounds this sacred place.
This artwork celebrates not just a landscape, but a feeling — the harmony between nature, faith, and timeless Himalayan beauty.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
