PICTURE and book remain, An acre of green grass For air and exercise, Now strength of body goes; Midnight, an old house -An Acre of Grass by W.b. Yeats I took the Inspiration of this painting ÒOld WindowÓ from this portion of the poetry. The speciality of the poem is that it contains very few words in it yet it explains a lot about old age through the conceit of the metaphors. Similarly, the painting has very few varieties of colours or subjects and things in it. All it features is a wooden window which is so old that itÕs out of its straight shape. What we can see through the window is a mixture of pale golden yellow and some bright tinge of Gamboge Hue. And there are raindrops making the view considerably hazy. The features of the symbolical metaphysical arts are that they tell you a very specific story no matter how differently you interpret it. In this painting I fused a touch of surrealism thus it varies slightly from hardcore symbolical arts. Whereas itÕs pretty clear that the dark room with very little touch of some dark reds is the mind of an old person, the window symbolises the eyes of that person and the raindrops are metaphorical representation of tears; still the significance of the outer view and the cause of the teardrops are somewhat open to interpretations. The pale golden view may represent some old memories of this person and in this case, the reason behind the tears is the realisation that he/she canÕt get those golden days back. On the other hand, the bright treatment of colours may signify some last moments of happiness such as the presence of his/her grandchildren. In that case, the tears are actually the tears of happiness. After all the full depth of a work of art depends on the interpretations of professional critics, so only the view of the creator upon his creation canÕt always provide the whole story.Product Code-ART_2144_17638
