A textured vision of Banaras ghats, temples and boats beneath a luminous sacred river sky in gold and turquoise.
The painting celebrates the sacred, enduring life of Banaras along the Ganges. Its clustered temples, historic ghats, riverboats, and glowing atmosphere express the connection between faith, architecture, daily activity, and the city’s deeply spiritual identity, as described by the artist.
This is an expressive, highly textured cityscape with a semi-abstract treatment of architectural detail. Thick, layered paint effects and energetic marks create weathered surfaces, while simplified temple forms, bold outlines, and vivid tonal contrasts convey the dense visual rhythm of the Banaras riverfront.
This painting would suit a living room, entrance foyer, meditation area, cultural space, hotel lobby, or office reception. Its luminous colour and spiritual Banaras subject make it especially effective as a statement artwork in interiors seeking warmth, heritage, vibrancy, and contemplative visual character. This artwork will complement any room or space beyond those mentioned, depending on individual preference.
The mood is spiritual, vibrant, and contemplative, with an undercurrent of grandeur. The glowing yellow horizon suggests sacred illumination, while the crowded, ancient architecture feels alive with collective memory. Turquoise water introduces serenity, balancing the energetic colour and textured visual abundance of the city.
The composition is structured in broad horizontal bands: a dramatic sky above, a luminous horizon and distant river at the centre, dense temple architecture below, and textured water in the foreground. The boats provide scale and depth, while the tightly clustered buildings create a powerful central focal zone.
Turquoise and blue dominate the river and upper sky, creating a cool atmospheric foundation. These are dramatically balanced by radiant yellows, ochres, oranges, reds, and earthy browns in the temple city. Dark charcoal and maroon clouds intensify the golden divine light across the horizon.

Through this work, I explore the connection between faith, river, architecture, and everyday life that makes Banaras a city unlike any other. The painting is a celebration of the city’s enduring beauty, where tradition and spirituality exist in harmony.
