In 'The Animal Kingdom,' I wanted to create a surreal tableau that subverts traditional power structures and religious iconography. The central figure is a human-like deity or sage, but he is not in a position of serene power. He is a king of a chaotic, uncertain realm. His crown is floating above his head, suggesting a detached or perhaps tenuous authority. His expression is one of calm, but also a certain kind of cunning.
He is surrounded by a pantheon of animals—goats, cows, a leopard, and a bird—that are not just his companions but also part of his world. The goats and cows, often symbols of peace and prosperity, are rendered with a stark, unsettling realism, their eyes wide and their forms almost ghostly. The leopard he rides is a symbol of raw, untamed power, and his mastery over it is not complete; he is part of its wildness. The bird with the coiled neck adds to the scene's surrealism, bringing in an element of the strange and the mythical.
The background is a vibrant, solid red, which gives the piece a powerful, almost confrontational energy. This is not a peaceful kingdom; it is a realm of passion, raw power, and an uneasy balance between man and beast. I used a pointillism style to render the figures, which creates a rich, textured surface, as if the entire scene is made of a million tiny, deliberate thoughts. Ultimately, 'The Animal Kingdom' is a meditation on the complex relationship between humanity, nature, and power, and how they all intertwine in a world that is both sacred and wild.
Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
Please do not use soap water, detergent, disinfectants or any chemicals over the painting as it might dissolve the colors. Paper and cloth paintings are usually framed with a glass on top, hence the artwork will remain intact. You would just need to clean the glass.
