Depiction: The word Bahubali (English: One With Strong Arms), a much revered figure among Jains, was the son of Rishabhanatha (the first tirthankara of Jainism) and the younger brother of Bharata Chakravarti. He is said to have meditated motionless for a year in a standing posture (kayotsarga) and during this time, so many climbing plants grew around his legs because of his austerity & mortification. and after tht he had attained omniscience (Kevala Gyana/Salvation). 57-foot tall ,The Gommateshwara statue at Shravanabelagola Karnataka,India) is one of the most important tirtha in Jainism. The monolithic statue of Bahubali at Shravanabelagola, located 158 km (98 mi) from Bangalore, was carved from a single block of granite.
