In a stormy night, lightning strikes the lighthouse and set it on fire. The girl is left with the only choice to leave the lighthouse in order to save her life and set herself on the voyage into the sea to find a new place to live. For so many years the girl has been living in the lighthouse and ushering the ships. But she herself never thought of facing the sea and explore something new. But when the lighthouse is been destroying she must go and face the sea for her own survival. Now she will struggle, she will suffer, she will starve. But all this will make her someone stronger and much wiser than she would ever think. She is alone and she will face and conquer the situation by herself. She will confront her own fear and weaknesses in this voyage. As a result after finishing this voyage, she will achieve some virtues that will reward her life for a long time. Thus the painting may seem to be about the end of something but on the contrary, it's a new beginning for the girl. The fire burning the lighthouse is symbolic to the fire that refines impure gold into pure gold.
