Gallery Note
This compelling bas-relief sculpture represents a masterful dialogue between classical realism and traditional Indian folk motifs. Rendered in a rich, patinated bronze finish, the central focus is a tender portrait of a mother and child, captured with a lifelike depth that emphasizes the tactile intimacy of their connection.
The composition is framed by a vibrant tapestry of Madhubani-inspired iconography, where intricate line work and geometric patterns breathe life into the background. Symbolic elements—including the peacock for grace, the lotus for purity, and the fish representing fertility and abundance—are woven seamlessly into the mother’s attire and the surrounding atmosphere.
By fusing the weight of metallic sculpture with the fluid storytelling of Rajasthani and Madhubani patterns, the artist elevates a universal human moment into a timeless cultural artifact. The interplay of high-relief realism against the flattened, rhythmic patterns of the folk art tradition creates a unique visual harmony that celebrates both heritage and the individual spirit.
