Kathakali belongs to 'Indian classical dance form' series of paintings. It is originated in Kerala. This art was recognized as a distinct dance form around 17th century, in the court of Travencore. Although, Kathakali, has it's root in NatyaShastra, but it's choreography and movements are also inspired by early martial arts of Kerala. Kathakali is distinguished by it's unique and elaborate costumes, headgears and makeup, which includes painting of the face, mostly with green colour, dramatic eye makeup etc. The eye movement and facial expressions are the most unique aspect of this dance form, which needed to be masterd by the dancers since childhood. A traditional brass lamp, an integral part of Kerala's cultural identity, is also included, adding depth and authenticity to the artwork. Ideally paintings don't require much care as its a vertical surface, hence dust doesn't settle quite easily. You can gently dry dust the painting once in a month. You can also gently use a slightly damp cloth and dab it gently over the surface to capture the dust particles. You can do this once in 6 months.
